For more than 30 years, BGE Landscapes has been built around experienced people, practical thinking and a genuine pride in the work we do.
Early years
Simple Focus
BGE Landscapes began in 1994 with Brett Garea and a simple focus: do good work, solve problems properly and take pride in what we leave behind.
Today
Managing projects well
More than 30 years later, that approach is still at the heart of the business. Brett remains closely involved in the day-to-day running of BGE, overseeing projects from the initial conversation through to completion. With qualifications in horticulture and turf management, and a background in parks and sportsfieldNews landing page – automatically pull published news items into the landing page rather than requiring manual tiles. management, contract administration, tendering and project delivery, he brings a practical understanding of both the work and what it takes to manage a project well.
History
Getting the details right
Before establishing BGE, Brett worked with North Shore City Council across parks and sportsfield management, maintenance, development, contract specification and monitoring. That experience shaped the way he approaches projects today — organised, hands-on and focused on getting the details right.
Today
Understanding the basics
Jackson Garea completed his apprenticeship in 2016, spent time overseas working in the landscape industry. Where he observed different operations, methodology and disciplines. He brings this experience into BGE and imparts this knowledge and expertise onto the team and into each project.
Jackson is also a qualified NZITO assessor - providing mentorship to our apprentices of which we have had many enter the industry over the past 32 years.

History
Practical thinking
Over the years, BGE has grown through the people who work here and the projects that have challenged us to keep learning. Our team brings together practical landscape construction skills, experience and a genuine understanding of how things are built. We work alongside designers, contractors, project managers and homeowners, bringing practical thinking to every project and considering different materials, methods and approaches where they can deliver a better result.

The Future
Building good relationships
We’ve never been interested in being the biggest. We’re interested in doing the job properly, building good relationships and producing work that stands up over time.
That means experienced people, good communication and a willingness to look at the options and find the right approach for each project. It’s what has kept BGE going for more than three decades — and it’s still how we work today.
