1.Commercial design checklist and initial meeting

A Commercial Design Checklist will be sent to the client prior to the landscape architect meeting you onsite. This checklist assists us to capture the clients priorities, practicalities and aesthetic aspirations for the intended project. It also improves efficiency therefore minimising costs for the client.

2. Confirmation of scope of services

Following the initial meeting with the landscape architect you will receive a letter outlining the understanding of works and a fee indication.

3. Detailed site investigation

Following acceptance of the fee indication a detailed site investigation will be carried out including site measure up, photo inventory and location of existing services/plans.

4. Concept Plans and Cost Estimates

A colour concept plan (and cross-sections if required) noting indicative hard landscaping materials and plant species (soft landscaping) will be prepared and presented for client feedback. Each component of the hard and soft landscaping will be scheduled with Unit Cost Estimates. The concept plan can be revised and/or staged in line with client feedback, priorities and available budget. Once the client has approved the final concept plan the landscape architect will confirm the construction sum.

5. Construction detail plans and consents (if required)

If a Building Consent, Resource Consent and/or input by a Certified Engineer is required the landscape architect will arrange for and produce the necessary construction detail plans and applications to satisfy statutory requirements.

6. Construction

Once the client has approved the concept, construction sum and satisfied statutory requirements (if required) then Brett Garea Environments will commence construction. The construction phase can be disruptive, testing and time-consuming, but we do our utmost to minimise the impact on the client and the surrounding residents if any. The landscape architect can be engaged to remain the clients point of contact through this phase and assist with queries or variations to the design that may arise to ensure client satisfaction throughout the course of the project. Construction can involve any or all of the following:

  • Set out

  • Tree and stump removal

  • Excavation

  • Drainage

  • Retaining walls

  • Paving

  • Rock work

  • Concrete work

  • Timber work

  • Shrub and tree planting

  • Water features

  • Lighting

  • Irrigation

  • Maintenance

7. Quality Control and Payment(s)

If engaged throughout the construction period the landscape architect will meet with the client and Brett Garea Environments to ensure satisfaction with all completed works. Payment for construction will be required following completion of the project (if the value is less than $10,000) or as progress claims should the project progress for more than 1 month.
